A micro-credit program in the Western Dunántúl of Hungary

An examination of data concerning micro-credits in the county of Gyõr, Moson and Zala showed that interest in the program introduced in 1993 is still significant, though the circumstances of borrowing have changed over the years. Small entrepreneur credit offered by commercial banks creates strong competition for the Micro-credit Program, the success of which may be enhanced by the reinstatement of initially decentralized functioning and the employment of market communication instruments. Future survival of the Micro-credit Program is ensured by its unique nature, which with the help of Local Centres of Entrepreneurs and small entrepreneurs contribute to the growth of undeveloped regions.
