Global environmental concerns, efficient management, and the need to increase the income of livestock production pose increasing challenges towards the application of data-driven decision support systems. The Agriculture 4.0 and Industry 4.0 revolutions are generating a wealth of production data while policies are intensively supporting the spread of smart systems. It will become increasingly important for farmers to monitor and use their production data. However, some factors, such as the lack of legal regulation of data ownership and the limitations of artificial intelligence, pose challenges. The effectiveness of decisions supported by information systems is affected by the fact that human decisions are often dependent on the circumstances of decision-making. Return on investment is also an important factor, but not enough time has elapsed since the introduction of various technologies to accurately assess their impact on production efficiency. Early adoption figures suggest that smart systems for automation in cattle farming, for example, can deliver productivity gains of up to 19-32%, labour savings of over 80% and environmental impact reductions of up to 22%. Farmers are confident in the effectiveness of technology, but the infrastructure is not always available, as international and national research shows. Data loss and maintenance difficulties due to fluctuations in internet access make it difficult to adopt smart technologies, monitoring and interpreting production data is still a problem and requires training of workers. However, the use of smart tools and artificial intelligence will enable more efficient and sustainable livestock production, in which the role of farmers is paramount, who can make a major contribution to the development of models by adopting the technology and ensuring data availability
