The development of rural areas is key in Hungary, where almost 30% of the population live in non-urban areas. The countryside has real values, which should be promoted through marketing and the potential of rural tourism should be supported. There is an increased need for rural society to adopt innovative solutions to alleviate existing negative economic and social trends.
Local developments that are locally generated, involve local people, are locally controlled and seek to meet existing needs should be encouraged and supported. These local developments should be implemented in the framework of the solidarity economy, with the cooperation or initiative of civil society organisations.
