The Main Relationship between the Magic Foursome - Strategy, Efficiency, Productivity, Competitiveness - and the Employment in Agriculture

There are numerous works that deal with the interpretation, the methodological issues for quantifying, and the indicators of the notions occurring in the title, the causal relationship between them and the existing interaction. Nevertheless different points of view can be identified concerning the interpretation of certain notions, the casual relationships, the interaction and the conclusions drawn. This is especially true for the well-known specialty of agricultural production. As a consequence the conclusions drawn are controversial in many cases or can be rejected in concrete circumstances.
Those documents drawing the expected role of agriculture in the national economy, dealing with the increase of employment in rural development policy as a key question etc. provide actuality for the interpretation of the notions - efficiency, productivity, competitiveness, strategy, employment -, and the exploration of the casual relationships and the interactions. In this paper we do not analyse in detail and answer all the related questions. Our objective is to explain the above-mentioned notions; the relationship between them in a complex way and conclusions are drawn on the basis of this in connection with the possible future role of agriculture in the employment. We compare our opinion with the conclusions published in the papers connected to the debate started in Gazdálkodás with the title “Efficiency and employment in Hungarian agriculture”.
