THE EXPERIENCE OF TRADITION is a cross-border cooperation project between Slove-nia and Hungary. The project was partly financed by the EU under the 2007-2013 Slovenia-Hungary Operational Programme. The authors, during the evaluation of the questionnaires completed by viticulturists and winemakers in the project area, and by the exploration of dif-ferent skills in the Slovenian-Hungarian grape and wine production traditions, looked for de-velopment opportunities for the winegrowers’ businesses. The results show that the size of vineyards, the time frame of occupation of grapes and wine, the income generating capacity of grape and wine production, and the sales form of the wine itself, show significant differ-ences between the investigated territorial units. The development ideas for the near future and the judgment of external factors needed for successful operation are highlighted from the re-gional differences in the examined factors, which can be explained by the differences in the economic regulatory system of the two countries.
