One of the criteria of sustainable agriculture is the long-term survival of holdings. We were looking for characteristics that make more likely the long term survival based on the data of 2000 and 2010 General Agricultural Censuses for private farms by a logit model. According to the results of the model, the characteristics for long term survival include the keeping of cattle and production of grapes, the use of greenhouses and the ownership of tractors. The area of utilised agricultural land makes the long term existence of the farms more likely. There were a relatively large number of variables that do not increase or decrease the survival of farms, including the production of certain crops and agricultural buildings. The long term existence is less likely with the higher age of the farm manager and if the manager is female.
